Rule 18. Organizations of persons with disabilities

• Encourage and support economically and in other ways the formation and strengthening of the organizations;

• Establish ongoing communication with the organizations and ensure their participation in the development of government policies;

• Be permanently represented on the national coordinating committee or similar bodies;

• Develop and strengthen the role of local organizations of persons with disabilities to ensure that they influence matters at the community level.

To achieve this, Rule 18 calls on governments to support and encourage the organizations, maintain permanent and regular communication with them, include them in national coordinating bodies and strengthen the role of local level organizations of persons with disabilities in community-level actions.
