Executive Summary"Interregional Consultative Expert Meeting on Disability-Sensitive Policy Design and Evaluation for Sustainable Livelihoods for All"(Jakarta, Indonesia, January 15-17, 2002)The "Interregional Consultative Expert Meeting on Disability-Sensitive Policy Design and Evaluation for Sustainable Livelihoods for All" was held from 15 to 17 January 2002 at Jakarta, Republic of Indonesia. The Meeting was organized jointly by the Department of Economic and Social Affairs of the United Nations Secretariat, the United Nations Development Programme, Jakarta Country Office, and the Ministry of Social Affairs of the Republic of Indonesia. The Institute for Social Development Studies (Jakarta), served as project cooperating agent. The Meeting was co-financed from resources of the United Nations "Development Account" (project 00/01H), for which the Under-Secretary-General for Economic and Social Affairs serves as program manager on behalf of the Secretary-General. The basic aim of the Meeting was to further equalization of opportunities in social life and development for persons with disabilities through a strategic assessment of issues and trends related to sustainable livelihoods, social services and safety nets. The Meeting provided a forum for technical exchanges and discussions of concepts, methods and applications of strategies, policies and plans concerning livelihoods, social services and safety nets for persons with disabilities. Over thirty national and international experts and consultants, most with personal knowledge or experience with disability, participated in the Meeting. Meeting participants formulated recommendations related to advocacy, the formulation and evaluation of policy options, and national capacity building to promote sustainable livelihoods for people with disabilities.
