Advance Information for Participants

1. Dates and venue for the Consultative Expert Meeting

The Meeting is being organized jointly by the United Nations (Department of Economic and Social Affairs), the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP, Jakarta Country Office) and the Ministry of Social Affairs of the Government of the Republic of Indonesia (DEPSOS RI) and which is scheduled for 15 to 17 January 2002 at Jakarta. The Institute for Social Development Studies (ISDS), as project cooperating agent, is assisting with substantive preparations for the Meeting.

2. United Nations Development Account support

The Meeting is co-financed by resources from the United Nations "Development Account Project 00/01H, Capacity building for equalization of opportunities for persons with disabilities" and responds to project objective two, 'building national capacities for sustainable livelihoods, social services and safety nets by, for and with persons with disabilities". The Under-Secretary-General for Economic and Social Affairs serves as Programme Manager of the Development Account on behalf of the Secretary-General.

3. Participant travel to Jakarta

Participants who are invited on the account of the United Nations will be issued a return trip ticket at the established entitlement by the most economical route and arrangement by [the Jakarta Country Office of the United Nations Development Programme - to confirm]. Tickets will be issued through the airline concerned, and participant travel will be scheduled so that invited participants can arrive at Jakarta no later than Tuesday, 14 January, for registration formalities and depart following the close of Meeting, Friday, 17 January 2002.

4. Passport and visa

Each Meeting participant must be in possession of a valid passport and, as required, visa to enter the Republic of Indonesia. Participants may wish to contact the Embassy of the Republic of Indonesia in their country with a copy of their invitation letter from the United Nations to attend the Meeting to determine if they require a visa and complete the formalities as appropriate.

5. Daily Subsistence Allowance

Participants invited on the account of the United Nations will receive a daily subsistence allowance at the established United Nations rate for Jakarta, which is US $ 118,00. The allowance will be for the period of the Meeting and include a daily allowance paid for the arrival day of 14 January and an additional lump-sum allowance, determined by the United Nations to cover miscellaneous costs associated with travel preparations and/or visa particulars.

Daily allowance and additional lump-sum will be made upon arrival in Jakarta. The prevailing United Nations currency rate now, US $ 1,00 is equal to Indonesian rupiah (Rp.) 10,300. This rate is subject to adjustment following the fluctuation of the market rate.

6. Accommodations

A group reservation has been made at Kemang Hotel for all participants for the duration of the Meeting.

The superior room rate is Rp. 475 000 (approximately equivalent to US $50,00).

The hotel is about 25 kilometers far from the Sukarno-Hatta Jakarta International Airport. Upon arrival at the Jakarta International Airport, participants are recommended to take a Silver Bird Taxi (Blue Bird Group). The Blue Bird Group counter is available at the arrival hall. The fee from the airport to the Kemang Hotel will be around Rp. 90 000 (equivalent to approximately US$ 10.00, including the airport surcharge, as well as airport and city toll fees).

7. Participant registration and Opening of the Meeting

Meeting registration and a welcoming event are scheduled for Tuesday, 14 January 2002. The formal opening of the Meeting, which will be officiated by H.E. Minister for Social Affairs, will take place at Kemang Hotel Ball Room on Wednesday morning, 15 January 2002 with participation by representatives of the United Nations Development Programme (Jakarta Country Office) and by the Ministry of Social Affairs (DEPSOS RI),

8. Closing of the Seminar

The Closing of the Meeting will take place at the Kemang I Room, Kemang Hotel on Friday, 17 January 2002.
