Guidelines for preparation of a Country Paper

Each UNESCAP sponsored participant is kindly requested to prepare a brief review paper of a maximum of 4-5 pages (double spaced) on the subject below, and submit it (preferably in electronic format) to the UNESCAP Secretariat (nagata @ un.org) before 1 May 2006. Though only selected participants may be able to present the papers during the Workshop they will be uploaded on the web site created for this Workshop prior to the opening and the hard copies will be distributed on the first day of the Workshop as valuable resources for the Workshop discussion. Self-financed participants are not mandated to submit the paper, but they are encouraged to do so.

Your review paper should cover the following components,

  1. Participation of DPOs and NGOs in the process towards the Convention and at AHC sessions (e.g. representation of persons with disabilities and DPOs/NGOs in a national delegation team, national negotiations and dialogue prior to each AHC session, etc.);
  2. Establishment of an effective monitoring mechanism at the national level (e.g. revitalization of national human rights commission, establishment of equal opportunity commission, the role of national coordination mechanism, etc.);
  3. Towards development of an anti-discrimination law in countries of the ESCAP region (some good practices in the ESCAP region);
  4. Disability inclusive international and regional cooperation (Twin track approach, disability integrated technical cooperation, disability impact assessment, etc.);
  5. Towards ratification of the Convention.

We may utilize, upon approval by the author, some of the relevant information for UNESCAP future publications on regional trends. Your contribution through this paper is highly appreciated.
