Getting to Bangkok, Thailand

Visa requirements

Participants should check with the relevant Thai diplomatic or consular mission on visa requirements and, where required, obtain appropriate entry visas to Thailand.

Arrival at the airport

Participants should make their own transportation arrangements from Bangkok International Airport (Don Muang Airport) to Prince Palace hotel or Thai Hotel where accommodation has been reserved (see paragraph 12). Public metered-taxi, and bus services are readily available at the airport at the following prevailing rates:

  • Thai Limousine Service Around Baht 650/per car (pre-pay at the counter and obtain a coupon)
  • Metered-taxi: Fare shown on meter, plus Baht 50 surcharge, Toll way fee is additional
  • Airport buses: Baht 100/per person (available between 0500 to 2300 hours, dispatch at 15-minute interval)

To take either a limousine or taxi, it is strongly recommended that participants contact only the officials manning the respective counters at the airport. The officials will issue a ticket for the assignment of either a limousine or a taxi. The counters for public metered taxis are located outside the airport arrival lounge.

Hotels

A block reservation has been made in advance for participants to stay at Thai Hotel (62-2-6292100)for the duration of your stay. For further detail, please see the attached Hotel Reservation Form. The rates (net inclusive) quoted in the attached form include daily breakfast and shuttle bus service from the hotel to the United Nations Conference Center and back to the hotel during the Workshop.

Each ESCAP-funded participant will receive a daily subsistence allowance for 6 days at the established United Nations local rate. This allowance is intended to cover expenses during the stay in Bangkok, including hotel bills, dinners and other miscellaneous expenses such as exit taxes. Therefore, participants are expected to pay their hotel bill upon check out.

Return bookings

Participants are advised to ensure that their return bookings are confirmed soon after their arrival in Bangkok. For this purpose, they should contact the Travel Agent located on the first floor of UNCC.

Participants are required to pay an airport tax of Baht 500 on their departure from Bangkok International Airport.
