Action plan in Hungary - III. Bela Secondary Grammar School, Baja

Selected Draft Plans:

(in a secondary school that serves approx.100.000 of the population in the surrounding area of 50km)

1. set up a group of class representatives and a teachers and disabled pupils and experts to coordinate the project

2. collecting a list of disabled students

3. find out their needs, suffered discriminations

4. meeting for determining the needed measures activating voluntary classmates

General alert:

a) redesigning the school home page in an accessible way involving the disabled persons themselves giving them self confidence and respect. Also, adding links to web-access information on the homepage (this page is regularly visited by formal students working all around the world)

b) visually impaired persons: - preparing talking books (by classmates) or typing in books that could be read by special software. - analysing location of students in the classroom - installing special lighting, blackboards in classrooms (by an expert+student) - searching opportunities for putting special pages on the school home page

c) persons with physical handicaps: -determining hindering objects and obstructions in the building - unaccessible services - estabilishing web based services using the accessible computer rooms

5. contact other schools + organisations having experience on this field for cooperation

6. organising follow-up of the measurments

7. preparing contacts (personal + web based) spreading the information about accessibility features of the school preparing elementary school students for coming to this secondary school.
