Closing Remarks

by Mr. Chen Yaan,
Director General of International Dept. CDPF

Dear participants, Ladies and Gentlemen,

The UNESCAP/CDPF Regional Workshop on Barrier-Free Tourism is going to close this evening. On behalf of CDPF, I would like to take this opportunity to extend my sincere appreciations to all participants, resource persons and experts, for your valuable contributions to this Workshop. I also want to thank the Government of Sanya City and Sanya Disabled Persons’ Federation and all the staff and volunteers for their wonderful work. And we could never forget our colleagues from UNESCAP. Your contributions, hard work, and good partnership have made this meeting meaningful.

Over past three days, we have had discussions on promotion to barrier-free tourism for those who are confronting difficulties when going out of their homes. In this room, we have shared our expertise and knowledge; we have exchanged our opinions and suggestions; we have identified our problems and shortcomings; and of cause, we have tried to find ways to do a better job for our future work. We have every reason to say that this meeting is informative, educative and encouraging.

Barrier-free tourism is quite a new phenomenon in the world in general and in our region in particular. It needs public awareness and social understanding. It needs not only tangible investment, but also our will and commitment. In the final analysis, it needs the joint efforts by all stakeholders.

Ladies and Gentlemen, when we leave this room this evening, we will become more confident because each of us has a clear action plan for what we should do; because we understand in every challenge, there is an opportunity, if we have the courage to take it; also because we know we are not working alone. We belong to one team, one contingent, and one army.

Thank you for coming, and wish you a smooth journey back home.
