Criteria to Determine Accessibility of Facility

1. Accessible

Facility to and within: Main building has no steps or steep ramp/slope to entrance and between amenities including route to accessible room/cabin.

Access routes: Smooth surface, no steps, kerbs or high threshold between essential amenities.

Car Parking: Designated parking space with ISA (International Symbol of Access) displayed on ground or on post located adjacent to room/cabin.

Entrances: At Room, Reception, and Restaurant. Level or no slope steeper than 1 in 12 with level landing area at door.

Doors: At Room, Reception, and Restaurant. No upstand or threshold greater than 20mm on all external and internal doors. Clear opening width of 750-800mm. Lever handles and minimum opening tension.

Lifts: 1400 -1500mm square. Low control buttons. Automatic door with 900mm clear opening width.

Room: Turning space of 1500mm i.e. spacious interior.

Toilet: Space for side (800mm) and front transfer plus wheel-over for commode. Handrail. Heights of WC pan at 400mm – 460mm.

Shower: Wet-area of 1000mm x 1200mm with no lip upstand, plus handrails and flexible shower rose fixed to slide rail. Controls reachable from seated position.

Wash Basin: Knee clearance of at least 675mm. Lever taps. Low mirror.

Bath: No set height. Space beside bath tub of at least 800mm. Grab rails. Lever taps.

Beds: Space of at least 800mm beside bed for transfer. Height between 500 -600mm. Telephone beside the bed.

Controls: Window latches, door handles, light switches fixed between 900 -1200mm above floor. Power points must be reachable from wheelchair.

Wardrobe: Clothes hanging rail not higher than 1500mm.

Room Numbers: On door centre in raised letters/numbers and Braille, and in contrasting colours to door.

2. Partially Accessible

Facility to and within: Main building has steps or steep ramp/slope to entrance and between amenities including route to room/cabin.

Access route: 1 to 2 low steps between some amenities e.g. spa, swimming pool, games room, laundry, office, restaurant and bar.

Car Parking: Other carpark spaces more than 3m wide in parking area or adjacent to room, reception, restaurant but not designated with ISA.

Entrances: At Room, Reception, and Restaurant. Slope up to door with level landing or steeper ramp than 1 in 12.

Doors: At Room, Reception, and Restaurant. Upstand or threshold greater than 20mm on all external and internal doors. Door widths between 700 -750mm. Round door knobs. Heavy door opening closers.

Lifts: Oblong 1200 x 1500mm. Manual doors with clear opening width less than 900mm.

Room: Restricted turning where furniture has to be moved.

Toilet: Space for only front or side transfer - not both. Heights of WC pan higher than 460mm. No handrails.

Shower: Wet-area with fixed shower rose and high controls. Not reachable. Standard shower box and shower over bath not acceptable in some countries.

Wash Basin: No space under for knee or foot clearance. Round taps. High mirror.

Bath: Very low or high bath tub. Round taps. Limited space beside bath tub for transfer.

Beds: Limited space bedside or between beds. Telephone on wall, bench or desk.

Controls: When guests are unable to reach controls to make tea/coffee, pull curtains, reach extra bedding, open windows, and reach power points.

Wardrobe: Clothes hanging rail not reachable from wheelchair.

Room Numbers: On door but not detectable by touch.
