Day 1 and Day 2: Monday - Tuesday, 25-26 October 2004

All Day Field Trip Study

Venue: Longxi County and Anding County of Dingxi City

Theme: To introduce and study the poverty-alleviation practice in China, i.e. the government playing a leading role, science and technology & the initiatives of disabled persons themselves being given full play.

Oct. 25, 2004

  1. Departure from Lanzhou for Longxi County at 8:00 a.m.

  2. (Morning) Visit to Weihe Village of Longxi County to have a look at the Limestone Factory of Mr. Wang Long (PWD)

  3. Lunch break at Longxi County

  4. (Afernoon) Visit some breeding farms operated by PWDs

  5. Stay at Dingxi Hotel for the night

Oct. 26, 2004

  1. (Morning) Visit to Dongyue Village

  2. Lunch break at Dingxi Hotel

  3. (Afternoon) Visit to Fengxiang Village

  4. Departure for Lanzhou at 15:30 and arrival in Lanzhou at 16:30

1400-1700 Agenda item 7: Integration of disability concerns into poverty alleviation policies/projects and development (Regional resource person, Dr. Handojo Tjandrakusuma and participants from China, Bangladesh, India, Japan and the Philippines)

Good practice replication:

  • Innovative and successful projects on poverty alleviation among PWD in the region (e.g. income generating activities for PWD, micro-financing schemes, micro health insurance)
  • Tools for effective evaluation of disability sensitivity, such as disability budgeting, disability impact monitoring/analysis, etc. for policies and projects

Integration of disability concerns into sectoral policies:

  • Education, training, employment, self employment and social security
  • Urban and rural development, accessibility, transport, ITC and tourism

Group 1: POLICY ISSUES including measuring and monitoring poverty and disability (including monitoring of disability impact, disability budgeting) and integration of disability concerns into development and poverty alleviation policies;

Group 2: GOOD PRACTICES including formulation of innovative projects (at the micro level) for poverty alleviation of PWD and technical cooperation and capacity building at the regional level
