The China Disabled Persons' Federation, in cooperation with UNESCAP's Population and Social Integration Section, Emerging Social Issues Division has organized Field Study cum Regional Workshop as a follow-up on actions recommended in a similar workshop in Hyderabad, India in 6-15 December 1999.

Policy makers on disability, poverty alleviation, urban planning, social security, education and ICT in the member countries of the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific will meet to find ways to increase participation of persons with disabilities in rural poverty alleviation programmes and projects.

The outcome of this workshop will be beneficial for UNESCAP members and associate members in the formulation of national policy on disability, in particular, to meet the goal No. 7 of the Biwako Millennium Framework, namely “poverty alleviation through capacity building of persons with disabilities and through social security”.
