Things to Know about Beijing, China
Foreign Exchange
The official currency of China is the Renminbi (RMB).
Foreign currency exchange services are available at airports and hotels. As of first
quarter of 2003 the exchange rate between US dollar and RMB was US$1 = RMB 8,29. Credit
cards, such as Visa, MasterCard, Diners Club and American Express, are widely accepted at
hotels, department stores, shops, restaurants and other places of entertainment.
Excursions
Excursions will be organized and sponsored by the host organization for the morning of
7 November 2002. The detailed schedule and destination will be informed at the beginning
of the Seminar
Weather
The weather in Beijing in early November is clear. The average temperature is 11 °C to
18°C. A long-sleeved jacket may be appropriate. Generally speaking, rain is not expected
at that time of the year in Beijing. The meeting rooms are air-controlled.
Electricity
Electricity supply in China is 220 volts at 60 Hz. Participants are advised to check
the voltage before using appliances. It is recommended that participants bring converters
or adapters.
Time
Beijing standard time is 8 hours ahead of GMT.
